Description: COVID-19 has upended the world and sent most classes online. Trolls have taken advantage of the opportunity to exploit software vulnerabilities and harass unsuspecting users around the globe. An uptick in so-called "zoombombing," has led to increased scrutiny and oversight. DLINQ is prototyping a Zoom Security cryptoparty for the wider Middlebury Community with the International Education Management program. The transition to digital classroom and pedagogy is difficult enough without having to worry about trolls disrupting and harassing students and professors as they continue to learn. DLINQ hopes that this session will help empower professors and students to feel protected in their Zoom rooms and serve as a starting point for a more robust conversation about data, privacy, and security in online learning environments.
Warm-up Discussion
As Middlebury Zoom users, we have access to a variety of features that help keep us and our digital spaces safe. Meeting hosts can enable or disable features for all meetings in their account settings. Hosts can also enable or disable some features on a meeting-by-meeting basis when they schedule meetings.
